There are roughly eight hours in a work day, and yet you always seem to have unfinished tasks at the end of every day. Before getting overwhelmed and allowing each work day to get off track, take back control of how you spend your time. Consider the following time management tips to be more productive each day at work.
Plan ahead
Ever heard that Benjamin Franklin quote that says, “Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today”? Planning ahead and planning each day out will help you get everything done. Start out each day by giving yourself a few minutes to map out your day, prioritizing your list of the most important things that have to get done first.
Update your list throughout the day as priorities change and push anything undone to the best time you can complete those tasks. The main point is to find the ideal time to do each task so you can do them well.
Disruptions
While it’s more productive to stay on task without switching gears frequently, disruptions throughout the day are inevitable. The key is to know how to handle them. Rather than block your entire schedule out with meetings and more, allow yourself a couple of small time slots for handling unexpected tasks or disruptions. This will help you feel a lot less stressed when things don’t go exactly to plan.
If you start each morning with email and find the time flies by, you may wind up feeling like you didn’t get much done. Checking email can easily take up too much of your time. It’s also tempting to check it constantly, but you don’t have to. If you instead dedicate some time each day specifically for responding to emails, such as once in the morning and once in the afternoon, you will be more in charge of your day.
These tips will not only help you to be more effective at work, but it can also have a positive impact on your company as a whole. Find the best time management tips that work for you and share them with your employees so they can be at their best too.
